Corporate citizenship initiatives in southern hemisphere
countries
Colas has operated in a number of southern countries for many years, and has the resources and experience that enable it to undertake actions that contribute to growth, to economic, social and cultural development and also to environmental protection.
It holds strong positions in Morocco and Madagascar for instance, where it has been established for over fifty years. Involvement in the social and economic fabric of these two countries enables it to act effectively within society:- partnerships with humanitarian associations,
- public health initiatives,
- training initiatives,
- supply of equipment,
- aid with reforestation,
- establishment of waste streams for eliminating waste.
Comparable programs have been more recently rolled out in other similar countries in which Colas operates on a lesser scale or is more recently established:
- actions to set up waste streams for used oil (Gabon, Benin, Djibouti)
- medical check-ups and first-aid training (Gabon, Benin)
- health insurance and micro-credit (Gabon)
- medical check-ups and HIV/AIDS prevention campaigns, training to prevent over-indebtedness (South Africa)
- humanitarian aid and job insertion programs (Djibouti, South Africa), etc
